Singapore Open: Defending champion Sindhu, in-form Prannoy eye good show at Singapore Open. sports news in hindi

Singapore. Defending champion PV Sindhu will look to bounce back after a poor show in Thailand at the Singapore Open Super 750 tournament starting here on Tuesday, while in-form HS Prannoy will look to continue his winning streak.

Things haven’t been the same for Sindhu, who suffered an ankle injury in August last year. She is slowly getting back into form and reached the final at the Spain Masters in Madrid and the semi-finals at the Malaysia Masters. However, she made a first round exit at the Thailand Open. Now here she will face world number one Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the first round itself.

Sindhu has a career record of 14.9 against her but a lot has changed since their clash at the Thailand Open last year. They will now have to be at their best to beat this Japanese opponent. Prannoy, on the other hand, comes into this tournament after ending a title drought of six years. He recently won the Malaysia Masters title. He will next face third seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan.

In Thailand, semi-final loser Lakshya Sen will take on fifth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. World Championship 2021 silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth will play Thailand’s Kentaphon Wangcharon while Orleans Masters winner Priyanshu Rajawat will face Japan’s Kenta Tsuneyama. Has lost two matches.

In men’s doubles, world number four Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will face Japan’s Akira Koga and Taichi Seito, while MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will take on France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Lobar. In women’s doubles, Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will play Hong Kong’s Yeung Eng Ting and Yeung Pui Lam.
