Sofia Geraykhanova: “I went against all Caucasians and proved that women have the right to express themselves”

Dagestan athlete Sofia Geraikhanova signed a contract with the Nashe Delo fighting league a few months ago, and now she has a chance to prove herself in the league’s first fight against Diana Vorobyova. We get acquainted with Sophia, who promises that in the future she will “nightmare” the whole light legion.

Hello, Sophia. Our first question will probably not be new to you. What made you choose such a traumatic and, shall we say, unfeminine sport? How did you come to sport?

From school age, I noticed that I am not a girl like everyone else. In physical education classes in jumping and running, I never lost even to the boys. Since childhood, I wanted to perform, to fight. The school had a freestyle wrestling section, and often skipping class I went to practice. My parents were adamantly against it, so I secretly trained and went to competitions, telling my relatives that it was just a TRP or Olympiad in one area.

I don’t know what did. I grew up as an aggressive child, like most Caucasian people. Everything piled up, there was nowhere to put it, constant fights at school. At some point, having already finished school and entered, I realized that all this is not mine – I want to fight, perform. I had a wrestling base, but I never made it to the gym. I just woke up one day and realized that not everything I do brings me joy and the only thing I want is to fight.

I entered the sport at the end of 2018. I will not say that it was by chance – I just decided to try myself and entered the Russian Cup championship in pankration. I’ve only done two MMA workouts in my life and those were my first competitions. That day I became the first, beating three girls, with a zero position. Standing on a pedestal, I realized that now I’m really happy.

Do you have a favorite move that you use in the octagon?

Yes, there is a favorite technique – it’s the right straight line. Recently, he often “puts to sleep” my favorite rivals.

Were there any serious injuries in your career that took you a long time to recover from?

Yes, there have been serious traumas in my life. One of them was a torn ligament (almost two years of inactivity), there were problems in the female part. But whatever happens, I’m here, I’m with you.

Your last fight was against Diana Vorobyeva. Could you rate this fight as a whole?

Honestly, I didn’t even show 20%. I was exhausted, didn’t recover from the shot put race, walked out with an ear injury. I just wanted to finally make my debut. I last fought 8 months ago. Every month, I waited for something, exhausted. Idleness in battles greatly affects duels.

Who inspires you the most before the fights?

I inspire myself, no one else, probably. I went against all Caucasians, and I proved that women have the right to express themselves, to choose what they like the most.

What does it mean to you to be a fighter?

For me, being a fighter is a responsibility towards my family, towards my people. Many people hate me, but there are also enough people who believe in me and ask to pave the way for the younger generation.

What makes you different from other fighters in the Nashe Delo league?

I stand out for being a bright and strong personality who came with his army of fans, who are loved and supported. I am the first girl in Dagestan who loudly declared to the whole country that she could not only speak, but also be responsible for every word spoken. Yes, I didn’t start out very well, but nevertheless, this is only the beginning – the most fun is yet to come. I’m going to nightmare the entire lightweight division, I promise!

What do you do in your free time from sports?

I have no free time: either I work to feed myself and my family, or I train. No other is given. It’s hard for me now, but one day everything will change!
