On Good Friday, six more Corona dead in the Odenwald district

ODENWALDKREIS – The Corona location in the Odenwaldkreis increased dramatically just before Easter. By the afternoon of Good Friday, the death toll had risen to 23, as can be seen from the corresponding publication by the press office of the district office in Erbach. In view of the tightening, District Administrator Frank Matiaske decided to send a special message to the population at Easter. Six people died compared to the comparison time on Maundy Thursday alone.

The Odenwaldkreis is thus facing an accumulation of deadly Covid 19 courses, which have never been seen in the entire region and which is also rare in all of Germany. The large number of deaths and the heavy use of the Erbach health center by Corona patients are mainly due to the spread of the infection in inpatient care for the elderly, which is strongly present in the district.

Additional security measures in residential and nursing homes

After three residential and nursing homes in the meantime, the Sars Cov 2 Virus has now reached five of these homes and has spread rapidly there in some cases. The owners and the Odenwaldkreis also reacted to the two newly affected facilities and placed the houses in quarantine, as the district administration confirmed on request. Additional security measures were also taken. The home management coordinated closely with the authorities, the responsible parties assured. In addition to additional protective clothing, breathing masks and disposable gloves for employees, the pandemic plan also applies. On site, the situation is monitored by those responsible in close consultation with the authorities, it said.

Retirement homes are considered susceptible to a high infection rate, which then affects the elderly who are at risk of a severe course. Of the six dead from Thursday through Friday afternoon, five come from the affected nursing homes alone. Of all 23 deaths, 15 are in the group of residents. This distribution of mortality is reflected in the age ranges to which the deceased belonged: none of the 23 citizens of the Odenwald district who died in connection with Corona was under the age of 60.

Age and certain previous illnesses are considered the main risks for a severe course

The age group from 60 to 69 years included a fatality, the woman who was the first to be killed in the region. Four people were between 70 and 79 years old, 13 between 80 and 89 years old. Five were older than 90 years. As the district health authority further reveals, everyone suffered from previous illnesses when they contracted the Corona Virus. Along with age, certain previous illnesses are considered the main risks for a severe course.

In addition to the horror news from Good Friday, a positive message also contained in the district-related Corona balance fades: A total of 53 men and women from the Odenwald district have survived their Sars-Cov-2 infection and have recovered from their symptoms, unless these are largely or completely anyway had failed to appear. Around 30 percent of the ode forests with proven Corona infection are now healthy again, because the district health office has stated their number as 180 in its latest report. This and the death rate result in a current number of patients of 104 women and men. 23 of them are treated in hospitals. The health center Odenwaldkreis (GZO) in Erbach, which has been completely reorganized for Corona needs, cares for 15 patients, seven of them in the intensive care unit. Clinics outside the district take care of eight other affected people.

In addition, another 13 people are suspected of having Covid-19 disease in the Erbach health centre. They have been tested on Sars-CoV-2, but the result is still pending. The total burden on the clinic in the Odenwald district is 28 patients.
