Nusrat Jahan joined politics in 2019 and during her first election, she recorded history of winning on the picket of Trinamul Congress party of Mamata Banerji. Nusrat Jahan won with a margin of 3.5 lakh votes against her nearest contestant BJP candidate Sayantan Basu from Basirhat constituency.
Nusrat Jahan recently tweeted about her marriage with a businessman Nikhil Jain. The marriage ceremony took place in Turkey. Nusrat gave her marriage news by tweeting from her twitter handle @nusratchirps
Following her marriage, she started wearing Sindhoor and Mangalsutra.
Mangalsutra has cultural significance in Hindu traditions. It is a necklace to wear by a woman to signify their marital status that she is married. Nusrat Jahan appeared in Loksabha wearing Bindi and Mangalsutra made all ulema(Muslim clerics) of the country disturbed. Ulema immediately declared a fatwa(a religious ruling) against Nusrat Jahan stating that she is now not a Muslim anymore.
