Europa League specialist, Sevilla beat Manchester United by 2-1 to secure their place in the UEFA Europa League final. The Spanish side ended United’s hope of ending the season with silverware. This season is United’s third consecutive season without any silverware.

Manchester United started the game brightly. They were awarded their 22nd penalty of the season in the 9th minute of the game. Marcus Rashford was fouled by Diego Carlos inside the box resulting in the spot-kick for the English side. Red Devils spot-kick specialist Bruno Fernandes calmly converted from 12 yards and scored his 12th goal of the season to provide United with the lead. Former Liverpool man Suso scored the equalizer for the Spanish side in the 26th minute. It ended with all square at half time.

The English side made some brilliant moves in the initial minutes of the second half but was denied by Sevilla’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bonuou. His vital saves, most notably the one against Anthony Martial, kept Sevilla in the game. Manchester United finally paid for their missed chances and vulnerable defense line in the 78th minute. A cross from Jesus Navas was meet by Luuk de Jong who despite being the lone man in the box placidly sends the ball into the net leaving Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Victor Lindelof rattled.

This would be Sevilla’s sixth appearance in the UEFA Europa League final. In the previous five outings, the Spanish side has not lost a single final and emerged victorious in all the occasions.

Sevilla will face the winner of Inter Milan Vs Shakhtar Donetsk in the final.
