Munich – Robert Lewandowski had painted the German Clasico very bold in the diary. But the top game is canceled because of the corona crisis, the game is suspended. Catch-up appointment? Unknown.

On April 4, after more than five weeks of injury at the Bundesliga summit, the FC Bayern striker wanted to stand on the grass again in front of 80,000 spectators in the Dortmund football temple against his ex-club BVB. Second, against first – it couldn’t be better. But the top game is canceled because of the corona crisis, the game is suspended. Catch-up appointment? Unknown.

It would have been scarce for Bayern to use the top striker in the duel of the hottest title contenders, as coach Hansi Flick confirmed. Lewandowski had injured in the 3-0 Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 on 25 February in London against Chelsea. Immediately after the diagnosis of the tibia edge opening on the left knee joint, the league summit had been targeted as a comeback date, also by the player. “I’ll be back soon and ready to fight,” said Lewandowski.

If this season should continue with ghost games at some point, Bayern could even benefit. “If you like, Robert could now play two games more,” said Flick. Because in Lewandowski’s injury break, the canceled games against Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt fell.

By the time he restarted, Lewandowski would be really fit again, said Flick. The 31-year-old Pole recently posted video sequences on Instagram showing him again with the ball on his foot in his garden. The time pressure has left the advanced training.

A recovered Lewandowski could become Munich’s success factor in the title fight. Because the goal scorer was in the form of his lab up to the injury, as his coach says. “Robert was sensational about the goal rate,” said Flick. The attacker scored 39 goals in 33 competitive games – and broke numerous records.

In the Bundesliga, Lewandowski could even be trusted to break Gerd Muller’s (74) all-time record. The “Bomber” scored 40 times in the Bayern jersey in the 1971/72 season. Lewandowski led the top scorer list with 25 goals 48 years later, followed by Leipzig’s Timo Werner (21 goals). “Everything is possible,” said Flick when asked whether he trusted Lewandowski to break Muller’s record. Reason: The striker could now score in nine league games.

Lewandowski is currently the best shooter in the Champions League. Eleven goals mean a season record for him. Second place went to the 19-year-old Norwegian Erling Haaland (10 goals), who, however, was eliminated with Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain. The striker duel Haaland versus Lewandowski would also have been a highlight of the postponed Bundesliga Clasicos.

Another Robert Lewandowski can be seen in Munich this season. One who has matured into a leader. The Pole no longer looks exclusively at his goal rate. He is much more team-oriented. In the last game against Chelsea for the time being, he put team-mate Serge Gnabry on two goals before he even scored the 3-0. “Robert showed what quality he has this season, not just in front of the goal,” said Flick: “He is also one who fits completely into the team.” Lewandowski, for example, is at the forefront of the “impetus when we act against the ball”.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, welcomes the fact that FC Bayern are again more offensive and dominant under head coach Flick. «Everything works really well. Every player has fun, accelerates. We play as a team. » Tactical trifles are responsible for this. «We have great players and can show great football with them. It’s just going to work, »said Lewandowski. He said that at a time before the injury and then all the corona stopped him.
