The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria is poised to address the pressing challenges facing Nigeria and the world at its upcoming 69th Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) Nigeria 2023. Themed “Taqwa: Pathway to Justice and Peace,” the convention is scheduled for December 22 to 24, 2023, at the Conference Ground, Jamia Ahmadiyya, Ilaro-Owode Road, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The National Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alatoye Folorunso Azeez, emphasized the critical state of affairs in Nigeria, highlighting issues such as insecurity, kidnapping, ethnic and religious conflicts, political and economic challenges, unemployment, poverty, and the impact of forex instability and fuel subsidy removal. He stressed that these problems stem from a decline in spiritual and ethical values, including a lack of fear of God, good conscience, and self-introspection.
Alatoye pointed out the rampant materialism and greed driving corruption and fraudulent practices at all levels of society. He advocated for a return to true values and the fear of God, citing the Qur’an’s guidance on addressing corruption and chaos.
The convention expects over 40,000 participants, including political, traditional, and religious leaders. It will feature lectures, special prayer sessions for Nigeria’s prosperity, development, peace, and security, as well as for global issues like the situation in Palestine. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community condemned violence against civilians by Hamas or Israel, called for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid in Gaza, and advocated for a two-state solution. They also expressed condolences for the accidental bombing in Kaduna State during Maulid Nabbiy celebrations.
The community urged the political class to moderate their lifestyles and make sacrifices for the people, given Nigeria’s challenging economic situation. The convention aims to foster a dialogue on justice, peace, and ethical values as solutions to Nigeria’s and the world’s problems.
It is noteworthy that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, renowned for its global outreach and peace initiatives, also organizes an annual convention in Qadian, India. This significant event, mirroring the efforts of their Nigerian counterparts, is set to take place by the end of December. These conventions, held in various parts of the world, underscore the community’s commitment to fostering dialogue, understanding, and solutions to pressing global issues, reflecting their enduring dedication to peace and humanitarian efforts.
