Apple agreed to pay a fine in Russia in the amount of 906 million rubles

US company Apple has paid a fine of 906 million rubles ($12.12 million) in a Russian antitrust case for abusing its dominant position in the mobile app market. Information about this spread to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) on Monday.
The antitrust case against Apple was opened in 2019 following a complaint by Kaspersky Lab, whose application for the Kaspersky Safe Kids parental control program was rejected in the AppStore.
In August 2020, the FAS found that Apple had abused its dominant market position and demanded that Apple repeal provisions that give it the right to reject third-party apps from its AppStore.
According to information released by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, Apple tried to appeal this decision at various stages, but to no avail, and in the end, apcompany agreed to pay a fine.
This is the second time in 2023 that Apple has accepted fines imposed on the company by Russian authorities. On January 17, the Federal Antimonopoly Service fined Apple $17 million for allegedly “forcing Russian developers to use Apple’s payment services” in the App Store.
Apple has yet to comment on its agreement to pay antitrust fines in Russia.
Apple suspended official sales of all its products in Russia in March 2022, following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, and canceled its ApplePay payment service in Russia.
In September 2022, Apple removed the Russian social network VKontakte from its AppStore.
In December 2022, the company closed its office in Moscow.
