Arab League calls for ceasefire on Eid for fighting parties in Sudan

– Published on:

Cairo: Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Ghet has called for a ceasefire between the fighting parties in Sudan during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. In a video statement, the head of the pan-Arab organization said, “I call on the brothers of the armed forces and the Rapid Support Force (RSF) in Sudan to declare a ceasefire on the days of Eid.”

Sudan has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese Army and the RSF in Khatroom and other areas since 15 April, with both sides accusing each other of starting the conflict. Abul-Ghet said, let there be a pause on the days of Id, in which the fire is kindled on both sides in a comprehensive and complete manner.

The AL chief said that this is a purely humanitarian call, which has nothing to do with the political situation on the crisis. It is noteworthy that Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr for three days to mark the completion of the holy month of Ramadan. Fitr is celebrated.
