Cologne President believes: No Bundesliga viewers in 2020

Cologne – President Werner Wolf of 1. FC Köln does not expect the Bundesliga to play again in front of spectators in 2020.

“My assessment is: I don’t think we’ll see live football matches again this year,” said Wolf during the online talk “Loss mer schwade”.

The 63-year-old hopes to return to gaming soon. “Because football without football is a lot of work, but not fun.” After a unanimous decision by the clubs, Wolf believes that the season can continue: “We hope that it will continue either in the form of ghost games on the first or second weekend in May.”

The Cologne had played the only ghost game of the season so far in the 1-2 derby defeat in Mönchengladbach on March 11th. “I say: If it hadn’t been a ghost game, we wouldn’t have lost it,” said Wolf. The viewers would be noticeably missing, “but you can also get used to such things”.

SPD politician Karl Lauterbach thinks little of a quick continuation of the soccer Bundesliga with ghost games from May. This said the health expert in the Sport1 double pass.

“I think autumn could be played again when we have enough tests and nobody feels that something is being taken away from us,” said Lauterbach, who, if the league season continues from May, will not provide adequate protection for the health of the Professionals sees. “With contact sports, the transmission of viruses can hardly be avoided if someone is infected,” said Lauterbach.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga are currently paused until April 30. Lauterbach went on to say: “Imagine the following catastrophic situation: we will let the Bundesliga roll again and there will be more cases again.” From the point of view of the SPD politician, this would not be justifiable, “especially not towards companies that are also waiting for easing, but which we cannot promise.”
