Corruption case: Islamabad High Court grants two weeks bail to Imran Khan

– Published on:

Islamabad: A special bench of the Islamabad High Court on Friday granted bail to former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for two weeks in a corruption case. A bench of Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz heard the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. This came a day after the Supreme Court on Tuesday termed Khan’s arrest from the High Court premises as “illegal and illegal”. The hearing started after a delay of about two hours due to security reasons.

Earlier in the day, a high court bench adjourned the hearing on Khan’s bail plea following sloganeering by a lawyer in the courtroom. The angry judges later said the hearing would resume after Friday prayers. According to reports, Imran’s lawyers have filed four additional applications, urging the high court to club together all the cases against Imran and to direct the authorities to provide details of the cases registered against him.

Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court premises on Tuesday in the Al-Qadir case after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued an arrest warrant against him. His arrest by paramilitary Rangers sparked massive protests across Pakistan, leading to the deployment of the army in Islamabad as well as in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
