The prosecution said in a statement that the shooting took place on Sunday evening in a residential area of the town of Atotonilco de Tola.
The statement said that “an armed attack targeted the football stadium, where a family sports match was taking place, killing six people, including three children, and injuring two”.
The statement only indicates that the authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances and motives of the attack.
For their part, eyewitnesses report that a number of armed men, probably intoxicated, opened fire on passers-by before they fled.
Witnesses said two of the dead were killed on the spot, while the other four died in hospital from their injuries.
