The Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Hollywood “also sometimes does not disdain the subject of the politicization of its work”. He therefore commented on the awarding of the Oscar to the film Navalny, transmits CASS.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, he cannot judge the quality of this work, because he has not seen it and “it would be illogical to say anything”.

“But, although I haven’t looked, I dare to assume that there is of course such an element of politicization of the subject, Hollywood also doesn’t sometimes avoid the subject of the politicization of its work, it happens” , said the Kremlin spokesman.

The presentation of the award to Navalny was also criticized by the adviser to the chief of staff of the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak. “If Oscar is outside politics, then how to understand Navalny’s documentary manifesto, where Russian domestic politics overflows? If Oscar is out of (conflict) in Ukraine, then why are you constantly talking about humanism and justice? he tweeted.

The film “Navalny” by American director Daniel Roer received an Oscar in the nomination “Best documentary film”. The film covers the period from when politician Alexei Navalny emerged from a coma at the Charité clinic in Berlin after being poisoned in August 2020 until his return to Russia in January 2021.

“Navalny” in the fight for “Oscar” managed to bypass the film “All that breathes”, “All beauty and bloodshed”, “The fire of love” and “The house of fragments” .

The world premiere of “Navalny” took place in January 2022 at the Sundance Film Festival, where the tape received the audience award, and in January 2023 it won the award from the British Academy Film Academy (BAFTA). Navalny has not been shown in Russia. Amediateka, which distributes HBO films and series in the country, said it has no intention of negotiating to buy the rights to the tape.
