The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking will be observed across the world on 26 June. This day is a matter of introspection for every section of the society, because the consumption of drugs has now taken the form of the biggest crime against humanity. The trend of drug abuse is increasing rapidly in India. It is a matter of concern that now this trend is not limited only to urban areas, but the drug trap is spreading in rural areas as well. Apart from opium, charas, ganja, heroin etc., injectable drugs are also being used in rural areas. Rave parties of rich young men and women are a modern form of drug addiction, where due to political patronage, even the police often refrain from interfering.

However, sometimes drunken youths are arrested by raiding rave parties. There is no metropolitan city in the country where such rave parties are not a part of the daily lifestyle of the nobles. In fact, rave parties are the modern form of drunken parties of spoiled youth. Be it cocaine or other such drugs, which do not smell, are becoming the favorite drug of the spoiled youth of influential families. Unaware of the fact that all these intoxicants directly attack the nervous system of the body and gift the body with terrible diseases, such youths become their slaves for the pleasure of a few moments.

The role of internet in bringing the youth closer to drugs also cannot be ignored. About 40% of drug users in India are college students, of whom a significant proportion are girls. In many colleges of the country, now the situation is such that drugs are easily available. School-college students often start consuming them at the behest or pressure of their peers or in the desire to look modern. Some youths start consuming drugs to experience the sensation of drugs, some for exciting experiences and some in a state of mental distress or frustration. People have also started using some medicines made to save human life to get intoxicated.

The most worrisome aspect of drug addiction in the country is that drugs not only destroy the beauty of the human body and make the body hollow, but their use is also destroying the creativity of the young generation by destroying their abilities and the social problems of the country. And crippling the economic structure. Once addicted to drugs, a person cannot live without them. Not only this, he has to take more of the drug to produce the same high effect as before. In this way a person becomes their slave. Most of the people have misconceptions that consumption of drugs increases the creativity of a person and it increases thinking ability, concentration and sexual pleasure in a person, but the reality is that the thinking ability and Its clarity ends and there is no coordination in their actions. Consuming these definitely removes the feeling of hesitation for some time, but eventually it leads to a decline in the general functionality of the body. Actually drugs or narcotics are such chemical substances, which change the functioning of our body.

The book ‘An Open Invitation to Death’, published in the year 1993, states that any chemical, which alters the physical or mental functioning of a person, is called a drug and when these drugs are used to treat a disease or improve health If it is used as a medicine, then it is called the right use of drugs, but when it is not used as a medicine, it is used in such a way that it harms the physical or mental functioning of the person, then it is called drug abuse. Is.

After getting addicted to drugs, some symptoms often appear in a person, in which there is no interest in sports and everyday activities, loss of appetite, weight loss, trembling in the body, red eyes, swelling, Reduced vision, dizziness, vomiting, excessive sweating, body pain, sleeplessness, irritability, lethargy, lethargy, depression, deep anxiety, etc. are prominent. Injecting drug users are also at risk of AIDS.

The biggest reason behind the rapid flourishing of illegal drug trade across the country is that drug trafficking is proving to be a hen laying golden eggs for drug dealers. This business holds 15 percent of the world’s total economy. Drug smuggling in India has been happening through countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, Burma, Iran etc. Although India acts only as a stopping point for smugglers in this illegal trade, but its side effects cannot be ignored because this illegal trade is closely related to smuggling, terrorism, organized crime in urban areas and economic and commercial crimes. A report by the International Narcotics Control Board states that India has become one of the best routes for drug trafficking due to its geographical location.

Although we have much stricter laws to curb drug trafficking than other countries, criminals often get away with some loopholes in the law. This is the reason why illegal drug trade continues to flourish in India. Today, in view of the extent to which the young generation is trapped in the clutches of drugs, it is the duty of the society to guide the youth and show them the right path and prevent them from walking on the wrong path. It is not appropriate to leave such works only to the government, but the society will also have to take concrete initiative in this direction.
