The Manege and Planet9 office project brought together nearly 1,000 exhibitions from all over Russia. The Russian Ethnographic Museum shared nineteen exhibits that added bright colors to the image of Russian ballet. The exhibition is based on a combination of unique authentic exhibits from 40 museums, archives and libraries of St. Petersburg, Moscow and regions of Russia – paintings, drawings, sculptures, costumes, documents and personal objects with multimedia installations created specifically for the exhibition. A cascade of luminous fabrics, delicate embroidery and precious stones plunge us into the world of Russian fairy tales, which have often inspired ballet masters.“We are delighted to have the opportunity to cooperate again with Manezh Central Exhibition Hall, one of the brightest and boldest places in St. Petersburg, which sets the tone for the development of museum trends. The joint projects of the Russian Museum of Ethnography and the Manezh, which have a powerful synergistic effect, demonstrate the effectiveness of inter-museum partnerships and prove the relevance of traditional culture. We plan to continue our cooperation with the Armory by presenting our exhibits at the planned exhibition “Russian Sculpture of the 20th Century. From and to”, comments Yulia Kupina, director of the Russian Ethnographic Museum. costume fragmentPhoto source: Ethnographic Museum Press CenterThe project is a journey through the history of the creation and development of classical dance in Russia, a story about the works that conquered the world, the historical events that accompanied the development of ballet in Russia, legends – choreographers , choreographers, composers and dancers, whose names have gone down in the history of this art form, as well as on the famous system of teaching ballet. The exhibition will also allow spectators to familiarize themselves with the scenography of a century and a half ago, restored by the Manège team from notes, diaries and archive documents. 12+
