Speaking at the hearings, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic Sergey Rashkov called the migration policy one of the most important elements in ensuring the security of the Union State. He recalled that in November 2021, the Supreme State Council approved the concept of migration policy. And the day before, in the Russian capital, at a regular meeting of the Supreme State Council, the issue of the security concept of a common state was discussed. And issues related to migration policy, he stressed, are also included in the security of Belarus and Russia.
A strategically adjusted migration policy, the senator is convinced, allows states to develop effectively. After all, it “directly affects not only the security of the country.” Stating that there is a shortage of manpower resources for the dynamic development of the economy, he drew attention to the need to attract workers from abroad.
And for that, he explained, you need a balanced migration policy, in the implementation of which parliamentarians also play a big role, “because they write the laws, participate in the drafting of decrees”.
Valery Mitskevich, deputy speaker of the lower house of the Belarusian parliament, talks about it in detail during the hearings. In modern international realities, he said, as the hybrid attacks on Belarus and Russia continue, it is obvious that “we must ensure the common security of the Union State. One of its components is migration security”.
Therefore, the relevance of improving legislation in the field of migration regulation is determined, first of all, by the tense political situation near our borders. In this regard, the parliamentarian summed up, “the questions of migration policy are among the most acute and the most discussed, and the subjects of today’s parliamentary hearings are important and relevant”.
