The US Department of Defense said that over the past 20 years it has provided financial support to 46 biological laboratories in Ukraine. The military department claims that the cooperation was peaceful in nature and concerned projects in the field of medicine and agriculture.
“The United States has been working to improve the biosecurity and protection of Ukraine, the effectiveness of human and animal surveillance, providing support to 46 Ukrainian civilian laboratories, health care facilities, and disease diagnostic centers over the past two decades,” the Pentagon said in a press release (Official US Defense Website ).
The document states that Ukraine has no military-oriented nuclear, chemical, or biological programs, and its laboratories are no different from similar medical and scientific facilities around the world. “The United States, as part of international cooperation, also worked to eliminate other biological threats in the territory of the former Soviet Union. Experts in biology, biosecurity, public health, and related fields from across the US government were brought in,” the document reads.

In early March, Igor Kirillov, head of the radiation, chemical, and biological protection troops of the Russian Armed Forces, accused the United States of conducting military biological experiments on the territory of Ukraine. Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense repeatedly presented documents captured in Ukrainian laboratories, indicating that American specialists were studying the possibility of spreading pathogens with the help of migratory birds, and also, possibly, were working on the creation of ethnically specific infections – diseases that affect representatives of a certain people.

Commenting on these allegations, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland spoke in the Senate, where she stated under oath that the States had “some research facilities” in Ukraine. Asked by Senator Marco Rubio if Nuland could guarantee that if biological pathogens or toxins were leaked in Ukraine, it would be Russia’s fault, Nuland answered in the affirmative.
