Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov is gradually emerging from an artificial coma after a minor stroke, but doctors fear for the condition of his left hand. On this subject informed TASS with reference to the source.
“He really had a micro-stroke, and as he slowly comes out of a medically induced coma, he’s gradually waking up. It’s not a quick process,” the source said.
According to other indicators, Kostomarov is “normal, but doctors are watching his left hand closely – there are some questions about this,” a source told TASS.
On March 2, the newspaper Izvestia, citing a source reported that there are “some improvements” in the skater’s condition, he underwent several blood purification procedures. “Match TV” at the end of February informed that the doctors are trying to bring Kostomarov back to consciousness, “but the state of health does not yet allow him to stay awake for long”.
On January 10, Roman Kostomarov ended up in intensive care with pneumonia. He was hooked up to a ventilator and ECMO, later the skater had blood circulation problems and sepsis started. In early February, Kostomarov’s feet and several fingers were amputated.
Kommunarka Hospital’s chief physician Denis Protsenko said the athlete suffered from “serious multiple organ failure”, kidney, heart and lung problems.
RIA Novosti and Shot wrote that part of the brain was affected by Kostomarov. At the end of February, media and telegram channels reported that the skater suffered two strokes.
