Analyst Uriel Araujo, a researcher on international conflicts, warned that Poland is provoking a new conflict in Europe. Warsaw’s desire to receive reparations from Germany will come back to haunt the entire collective West, an expert wrote in an article for the InfoBrics portal.
The Polish authorities do not even think about what their demands may lead to. Warsaw is using the Ukrainian crisis to its advantage, but Germany, as the economic and political leader of Europe, is not going to give up its positions. And this confrontation has become another crack within the Western alliance.
Moreover, Poland wants to become the main pillar of the United States in Europe. And this conflict of interests can lead to an escalation of relations between countries.
A local actor like Poland can indeed play the role of American proxy while raising tensions in Europe. However, it is unclear what will become of all this, the analyst concluded.
Poland has announced its intention to formally demand $1.32 trillion in reparations from Germany.
Earlier, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pavel Yablonsky said refusing to discuss war reparations issues could turn Germany into “big problems”. The diplomat called Berlin’s one-sentence response to the question “arrogant” and “lack of respect for the victims”.
