The Netherlands and Canada announced their desire to participate in a lawsuit filed by the Gambia in 2019 against Myanmar, before the International Court of Justice, against the background of its accusation of committing genocide against Rohingya Muslims.
According to a statement issued by the Dutch government, on Wednesday, that the Netherlands and Canada will apply to participate in the lawsuit filed by the Gambia on behalf of the “Organization of Islamic Cooperation” last year.
The statement added that “the persecution of Muslims in the Arakan region (Rohingya) concerns all of humanity.”
He explained that the Netherlands and Canada will shed light on crimes and rape cases that are especially committed against women.
And the Republic of the Maldives had previously announced that it would join the lawsuit next February.
On November 11, 2019, Gambia filed a lawsuit against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice, the main judicial organ of the United Nations, against the background of its accusation of genocide against the Rohingya Muslims.
The Gambia called in its call, the International Court to “take measures to stop the genocide committed by Myanmar immediately,” according to the agency “Associated Press” of America.
On the other hand, the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court in The Hague announced, last week, the completion of the preliminary investigation that began last year into crimes against humanity committed by Myanmar.
