At the office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Budva, Montenegro, there are always queues for obtaining and renewing residence permits (permits). According to local publication Vjesti, foreigners strength spend the night in the department of the Ministry of the Interior in order to queue for paperwork.

The Montenegrin edition of Vjesti published a photo in which several men are lying on a staircase, presumably the center for issuing visas and extending residence permits. Foreigners, mostly from Turkey, are said to be sleeping in the hallway and on the stairs almost every day.

“Almost daily, office workers are faced with such scenes, and citizens complain of waiting in the department for several hours, and sometimes they don’t even arrive in turn,” the newspaper writes.

Earlier, Russian media reported that the center for issuing visas and extending residence permits collapsed due to rumors about the abolition of the visa-free regime for Russians. Tourists have been complaining about having to queue for the reception since the night before, but even then there’s no guarantee.

Russians continue to report queuing at night, and on some days those arriving after midnight don’t always make it through the next day.

According to the locals, due to the great excitement around the issuance of visas and the extension of residence permits, the employees of the branch have started to sell places in the queue. At the same time, collapses and similar problems have not been reported in other cities of Montenegro.
