“That’s how I’m shaped and that’s how I am. There’s nothing wrong with that. You can hypothesize that I can be fixed with a laser or brain surgery . But I’m like that. Society created me, I have the right to be like that and that’s fine”, says Birgir Þórarinsson, musician and member of GusGus, or Biggi virus as he is better known.
Biggi is interviewed in the latest episode of the Karlmennska podcast, where he discusses, among other things, his way of dressing, but Biggi often draws attention for dressing unconventionally compared to a man, and he wears usually traditional women’s clothing.
Biggi says he hid his fondness for women’s clothing, but when he met his wife in 1998, he confided in her.
“Until then, I had hidden it from my girlfriends. I was in the closet with it. It wasn’t right. At the time, it was quite primitive,” says Biggi and says his wife n ever commented on his gender expression. He has never been in trouble, his choice of clothes and makeup is part of him and people generally accept him well.
“Maybe I can get away with it because I’m a musician.”
