Teaching children “Arabic”; Animated moral values

On a journey full of memories and nostalgia for childhood, young children born in the eighties and nineties returned, remembering the best of that era, and chanting cartoon badges in the Arabic language that used to bring them together in front of the TV screen every day, accompanied by cartoon characters, their stories and adventures, such as “Detective Conan” and “Simba.” And “Babar Phil” and “Remy” and other programs that left an immortal imprint on the lives of the people of that generation. This was during the activities of the TED Summit in Arabic, which was held recently in Doha within the framework of the partnership between Qatar Foundation and TED, and witnessed the participation of the artist Tariq Al-Arabi Tarqan and his sons Dima, Tala and Muhammad, who are among the pioneers of children’s songs and cartoon badges in the Arab world in composition, melody and singing, where they presented performances that inspired The enthusiasm of the masses and brought back their nostalgia for childhood memories and the beautiful past. On the sidelines of his participation in the summit, artist and animator Tariq Al-Arabi Tarukan explained the importance of animation programs for children and their role in building future youth, asking how animation programs in Arabic contribute to preparing a generation that makes change. Tariq Al-Arabi Tarukan explained that animation programs In the Arabic language, it contributes greatly to enhancing the palatability of the classical Arabic language among children by focusing on enhancing the learning process through fun. However, the impact of these programs is not limited to the Arabic language only, but rather they open other doors such as their role in instilling good moral values in the hearts of children. And its consistency with the values of Arab culture. Promoting learning He said, “Animation programs contribute to enhancing learning in an easy and fun way. Education, whether it is in Arabic or other languages, should not be direct. The same applies to the meanings contained in the cartoon icons, which are an added value to the cartoon work. When we said, “I had an idea,” we did not focus on the meaning, because the meaning will become clear to the child at some point in time. He added: “This is the way we learn language, as we form certain concepts of vocabulary with life, and it is easy for us to absorb and consolidate them in the mind when we listen to them over and over again, and children have comprehension capabilities that exceed our imaginations, and I have always been one of those who do not prefer direct children’s songs.” Because I consider it an underestimation of the child’s mind and abilities. Regarding the reason for the great impact that these programs had, Al-Turqan says that the historical circumstance at that time had a major role, as these programs were broadcast in many countries throughout the Arab world, and children watched them at a specific time on television. He said, “This is what caused a great similarity in the people of the Arab world of the same generation, not only in terms of language only, but also in the way of dealing with matters and the texture of thinking.” Animation challenges Regarding the challenges currently facing the animation software industry, Al-Turqan said that the matter is currently different due to the openness of the Internet, the multiplicity of options and the type of content that children watch through digital platforms, and he said: “I believe that there is a new generation in the making that will revolutionize this field.” And this is what I feel when I meet the children on our visits to the countries of the Arab world. It is worth noting that Qatar Foundation has launched the 3D animated television series Siraj, which aims to motivate children in Qatar and the Arab world, between the ages of 5-8, to explore the Arabic language by focusing on various topics of science, history, morals, religion and values in a manner Simplified and positive by participating in a fun educational journey full of fun, learning and discovery. The Ramadan “Siraj” version was launched, which aims to promote children’s values and morals derived from the stories of the prophets. The episodes will continue throughout the holy month of Ramadan and can be watched on Qatar TV. All episodes will also be published on the YouTube channel dedicated to the “Siraj” programme.
