The US intelligence agencies have concluded that the Russian military has rewarded Taliban-linked militants in Afghanistan for killing the US and other coalition forces stationed there, the New York Times reported on Friday.
The newspaper quoted officials familiar with the matter as saying that the United States had confirmed months ago that a Russian military intelligence unit linked to assassination attempts in Europe had offered rewards for successful attacks last year.
The newspaper said he believed that Islamist militants or armed criminal elements closely linked to them had received some of the money for those rewards.
Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published by the Russian Information Agency that the primitive information waste repository clearly shows these modest information capabilities in the American intelligence services”.
The White House, the CIA office and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to respond to requests from The Eastern Herald to comment on the newspaper’s report.
The newspaper said that US President Donald Trump was briefed on the intelligence report, adding that the White House has yet to authorize any steps taken against Russia over these rewards.
