Andrei Sadovyi, mayor of the Ukrainian city of Lviv, on Saturday, demanded the air defense systems of Ukraine, following a series of Russian missile attacks on the city this evening.

“We do not know the targets of the Russian missiles launched today from the city of Sevastopol, which hit not only Lviv but also other sites in our country,” Sadovyi said, according to CNN .

“We are all in the same situation, the sooner we get better quality weapons and air defense, the safer our cities and citizens will be,” he added.

And he added, “The sooner we establish air defense in Ukraine, the sooner we will achieve victory.”

Earlier on Saturday, Sadovy announced that the city had been subjected to a missile attack by Russian forces, resulting in 3 explosions.

Hours later, Lviv Governor Maxim Kozitskiy announced that “3 powerful explosions” had occurred near the city.

Sirens sounded in the city in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland, according to the US Associated Press .

Video footage from the US agency showed thick plumes of smoke rising over the city.

It should be noted that since the beginning of the Russian military operation against Ukraine, Lviv has become a safe haven for about 200,000 displaced Ukrainians.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine , which was followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of “tough” economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.

To end the operation, Russia requires Ukraine to abandon any plans to join military entities, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and to adhere to complete neutrality, which Kyiv considers an “interference in its sovereignty.”
