In Zelenogorsk, near St. Petersburg, it is planned to cut down forests for the further development of the territory with elite housing and a school for 2,000 people. The plan to destroy the object was not supported by anyone, activists report, 210 voters opposed it. However, the KGA is not going to cancel the survey projects.
The Planning and Architecture Commission published its opinion on the deforestation project in Zelenogorsk and the construction of a school and elite housing. 210 people voted against the adoption of the document, no one voted for. However, the KGA has responded to objections that the territory specified is not forest, so its destruction is legal. Activists intend to continue their fight to preserve the object, popular with the inhabitants of Saint Petersburg for a weekend getaway.
“The results of this survey, along with all other developer-commissioned reviews, are evident from the outset. The fight against the Barbarian Project will continue,” they said.

A fairly large area of coniferous forest, where Red Book birds and rare plants are found, was found to be at risk of extinction. Activists call on representatives of Governor Alexander Beglov’s team not to cut healthy trees on the territory, which was designated as a green zone in the latest Soviet urban plans. They noted that there are enough abandoned pioneer camps around the city where it is possible to build a school and new housing without cutting down the coniferous forests in the Kurortny district.
