NYT: Europe struggles to keep promises to hand over tanks to UkraineThe New York Times (NYT) reported that Europe has encountered difficulties in transferring tanks to Ukraine, since they need to be repaired and modernized, and their shipment is not coordinated inside the country. The reason for the problems is lack of funding. In 2014, NATO set a target level to send to defense. It was 2% of GDP. In 2022, only nine members of the alliance have been able to reach this level. Among them are European Poland, Great Britain, Slovakia, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania and Croatia. For this reason, the countries of the European Union cannot even assemble 62 tanks to create two battalions. Thus, the idea of transferring military equipment to Stockholm met with serious opposition, and Spanish tanks needed repair. Even the Liberal Party opposed sending them.Earlier, media reported that one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tanks, which will be sent by Western countries to Ukraine, bears Nazi symbols. One of the tanks, which is transported by rail with the rest of the vehicles, is painted with symbols often used by Nazi communities.
