Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The economic effect of Lukashenka’s visit to China was estimated at $3.5 billion

March 1, 2023, 6:36 p.m. – Public Information Service – TEH – The Belarusian authorities estimated the economic effect of the agreements reached during the visit of the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko to China at more than 3.5 billion dollars, said First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov.
“The cumulative economic effect is estimated to be approximately $3.56 billion equivalent,” BelTA quoted him as saying.

The amount will not be reached immediately, however, all the agreements “that are in progress, including those that were determined in Samarkand (during the meeting between Lukashenka and Xi Jinping in September 2022), form such a figure overall”.
It should be noted that the Belarusian side has agreed with Beijing on the creation of a free trade zone. On March 1 of this year, a memorandum of understanding was signed. The memorandum includes the basic provisions of the agreed agreements and also sets out the intention to immediately begin negotiations on services market access and investment.
According to the Public News Service, a free trade and investment zone will be created between Belarus and China.
