Called up for service in the armed forces, a resident of the Leningrad region through the court managed to obtain the right to alternative civilian service. The man’s attorney Alexander Peredruk spoke about the process.
In 2019, Pavel Mushumansky, who lives in Gatchina, due to his religious beliefs, was performing alternative service instead of urgent military service. After the announcement of a partial mobilization in Russia, he received a summons on September 24. The man reported to the military registration and enlistment office and asked to be sent to ACS. Instead, the conscript was transferred to a military unit in Luga.
The reservist filed a complaint with the Gatchina Municipal Court, which declared the conscription illegal. The military commissar tried to challenge the decision in the Leningrad Regional Court, but to no avail.
“The decision of the Gatchina Municipal Court remained unchanged, the complaint was not satisfied. The formalities related to his dismissal remain to be settled, but there is no reason to keep him in the unit,” said attorney Alexander Peredruk told Fontanka.
Earlier it was reported that residents of a number of Russian regions have started to receive subpoenas again. The military commissioners say the events are held solely for data verification.
