Disagreements over the ban on internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and nuclear power issues have caused a serious conflict between the German and French governments. This is stated in the material published by the Politico newspaper.

Starting this Friday, March 24, EU leaders will meet in Brussels to discuss the organization’s competitiveness in the economic field, as well as the subject of continued assistance to the Ukrainian army. As the publication’s article notes, the misunderstanding between Berlin and Paris could derail the encounter.

The fact is that Germany, together with its allies, including Italy, blocked the EU’s decision to ban the sale of cars with traditional engines by 2025. Berlin also announced the need for rule out a synthetic alternative to fossil fuels. Paris has criticized this position of Germany and is now asking for the inclusion of nuclear energy in the list of “clean” technologies of the European Union, thus provoking the condemnation of the German authorities.

A week ago, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on his compatriots to invest in climate protection programs for the benefit of the country. According to him, this should raise Germany to a fundamentally new level of economic development.
