Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

In Belarus came into force the law on the death penalty for civil servants for treason

In Belarus, a law has come into force that provides for the possibility of applying the death penalty to officials – civil servants and military – for treason committed by them.

The law involves amendments to part 2 of article 356 of the Criminal Code (PC) of Belarus “Treason to the State”. According to her, in addition to the death penalty, it is possible to apply a sentence to a person who has committed treason against the country and exercises a public function in the form of life imprisonment.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed the relevant law on March 9 and it was approved on February 21.

To date, Belarus is the only country in Europe where the death penalty is used as a punishment for crimes against the law.
