North Macedonia will transfer to Ukraine 12 Mi-24 military helicopters with a practically exhausted resource. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Defense of the country Slavyanka Petrovska.
North Macedonia acquired these helicopters from Ukraine in 2001. According to Petrovsky, the decision to transfer the helicopters was taken after a request from the Ukrainian side and an analysis of the impact on the military.
“According to our modernization plans, this equipment has almost exhausted its service life and will not be part of our armaments,” the TASS minister quoted.
She added that in return, the country will acquire at least eight Western-made helicopters, but that they will have a transport and not a military purpose.
In July 2022, North Macedonia handed over to Ukraine T-72 tanks and four Su-25 attack planes, which the country also acquired from Kiev in 2001 and which had not been used for almost 20 years.
