State Department: US has requested official notification of Gershkovich’s arrest from Russia

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has asked Russian authorities for official notice of the arrest of Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich
“The U.S. Embassy in Moscow has requested official notification of his arrest, and Russia is required to provide it as part of our bilateral consular agreement,” said the State Department’s deputy spokesperson, Vedant Patel.
The Lefortovo court in Moscow has arrested Evan Gershkovich, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), who was previously detained in Yekaterinburg, on suspicion of espionage.
The Wall Street Journal said it was “deeply concerned” by the journalist’s detention.
Gershkowitz used a journalism visa and accreditation to cover up non-journalistic activities. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. State Department: US Seeks Official Notification of Gershkovich’s Arrest from Russia
