The Amman Jordanian Court of First Instance upheld the conviction of a jewelry expert, on charges of breach of trust, and imprisoned him for 6 months, for attempting to seize rare diamonds, valued at 16 million dinars ($23 million).
The diamond stones that the jewelry expert tried to seize belonged to an Arab businessman residing in Amman, who presented them to the accused as a jewelry expert to estimate them and know their weight in preparation for selling them, according to the Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad.
The businessman had asked his media advisor to provide him with a jewelry expert to find out the value of the diamonds on the ring and the necklace.
According to the verdict, the accused took 4 diamonds from the ring and the necklace, two of them blue, the third yellowish-white, and the last transparent diamond stone, and replaced them all with glass stones.
The defendant had removed the blue diamonds from the ring and the necklace, examined and weighed them, and also removed the other stones from the necklace in order to weigh them. When the defendant tried to return some of the stones that he had snatched, he could not put them back in their place, as he requested to return again in order to bring the relevant equipment. so.
And because the complainant wanted to sell the necklace and the ring without the blue stones in it, he agreed with the defendant to change it with other stones, and the defendant, based on an agreement with the complainant, brought two blue sapphire stones for the ring and the necklace in order to replace them, then he removed the two stones from them and the defendant gave The two stones he replaced complained about the necklace and the ring.
After that, he installed sapphire in place of the stones that he dismantled, and after completing his work, the defendant left the complainant’s house, and when the complainant checked the original blue stones that the defendant had taken, it became clear to him that they were not the stones that were on the necklace and the ring, which prompted him to inform the criminal investigation, which in turn was able to The blue stone of the ring was seized in the compartment of the defendant’s house after it was opened by an expert in opening the compartments after the defendant refused to open them. The complainant was also handed two white stones found inside the compartment and delivered to the complainant according to a receipt of seizures from the Criminal Investigation Department.
