Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The State Duma proposed to oblige citizens to report the storage of more than a million rubles at home

Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, former “expert” of “What? Where? When?” Anatoly Wasserman has proposed obliging Russians who have more than one million rubles in cash ($12.2 thousand) to declare their origin.

Otherwise, a confiscation and a fine corresponding to twice the amount of money thus stored are foreseen. Explaining the initiative in a comment by Mash, Wasserman cited journalist and blogger Ksenia Sobchak as an example, who in 2012 kept one and a half million euros at home. The explanatory note to the bill states that large amounts of cash are usually the result of activities in the informal sector of the economy and therefore require special attention and control. Wasserman himself assures that he does not keep more than 100,000 rubles at home.

Wasserman’s idea was not supported by the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, writes RBC.

Earlier, the Central Bank warned Russians about a new fraud scheme with a QR code.
