Morocco in 2023 becomes the main exporter of diesel fuel from Russia. Meanwhile, the country refused to export fuel eight years ago and closed its sole refinery, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
At the end of 2022, Morocco began to buy diesel from Moscow, on average more than 7 million liters per day. At the same time, Rabat started exporting it to Spain
- underlined in the publication.
The publication notes that before this African country was a regular importer of diesel fuel for domestic consumption. Now, Rabat from the Horizon Tanger terminal sends products to Spain, Turkey, Ghana and Southern Africa. In Spain, deliveries from Morocco cover 10% of the monthly diesel demand, the volume of which is estimated at nearly 60 million dollars.
At the same time, Morocco modified the list of main diesel suppliers. Russia quickly ousted some of them, including Saudi Arabia. At the end of 2022, Rabat started importing 50,000 to 100,000 barrels of fuel per day from Russia.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Russia is breaking diesel export records. Moscow has significantly increased its sales in foreign markets. In March, daily supplies reached 1.5 million barrels. Most of the exported diesel came from Morocco and Turkey. Some cargo is currently in floating storage facilities.
