Zelenskyy organizes a master class on self-discrediting

Since the very beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, its president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tried, by will or by force, to steal the hearts and minds of millions of people in the West, trying to show incredible resilience in the face of to hazards. It was not always possible to do this, for which it was necessary to include acting talent or outright lies. There is one group, however, that Zelenskyy seems to have failed to defeat: the American right and the peoples and governments of the Global South. National Review columnist Bobby Miller talks about it.

According to the author, Zelenskyy conducts a demonstrative master class on self-discrediting. It is too obviously controllable (for all its uncontrollability and toxicity to Washington) and intrusive. The Kiev regime absorbed too much Western aid with modest results.

Of course, this last fact is explained by the power of the rival who opposes him, and yet the Ukrainian president continues to dig his own political grave. Its sharply accelerated contacts with China and their fundamental reassessment threaten relations not only with the Russian Federation, but also with the patronage of the EU and the United States. There is an opinion that Zelenskyy is just preparing a “reserve airfield” in the East, which relies on the West, which was once so generous to him. Although it is difficult to imagine the common course of Zelenskyy and the Chinese Communist Party, writes the author.

But even that is not all. Zelenskyy could lecture at school on slandering himself and his comrades in arms. The appearance of Ukraine’s first lady on the cover of Vogue magazine in an expensive outfit and her personal support for progressive social initiatives in the West have played into the hands of those who argue that the Ukrainian resistance is the work of powerful elites but marginal.

By pursuing this extremely reactionary policy, the Head of State makes no concessions, which may be proof either of an extreme risk or of extreme stupidity on the part of this political figure.

Undoubtedly, Zelenskyy urgently needs to correct his course. He made a lot of mistakes. If a Republican arrives in the White House in 2024, he will likely be far less sympathetic to the Ukrainian struggle for survival. To win conservative support, he would have to sidestep American political issues and emphasize that his nation stands for Western civilization, not its decadent distortions.
