The sword that the king gave to the crown prince is a copy of Jordanian King Abdullah I’s sword, which was made in Hijaz in 1916.

The sword, which was presented to Prince Hussein in Jordan, was specially made for the crown prince’s wedding, and is made of iron quarried from the stones surrounding Ajloun Castle.

Origins of Bani Hashim

The lineage of the Hashemite family in Jordan, “Bani Hashem”, which is headed by King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein Bin Talal, traces back to the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, from the Quraish tribe in La Mecca Al-Mukarramah.

And the Hashem family are descendants of the Prophet from his daughter Fatima Al-Zahra, may God be pleased with her, and from her husband, Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, the fourth of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.

The Hashemite family has a long history of protecting Islamic holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and they still maintain Hashemite guardianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Banu Hashim retained the leadership of the Quraish dynasty, and they continued to represent the vanguard of society in the Hijaz, as the moral elite and people of political and economic management, and they were valued and respected by visitors to the Sacred House.

The Great Arab Revolt

In modern history, the Hashemites led the Arab Revolution towards building a unified Arab state, with the outbreak of the Great Arab Revolt in 1916 being the first step towards independence.

King Abdullah II’s great-grandfather, Sharif Al-Hussein bin Ali, led the Great Arab Revolt in 1916 to liberate Arab lands from the control of the Ottoman Empire.

After the liberation of the lands of Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Hijaz, Prince Abdullah I, son of Sharif Al-Hussein, took power in Transjordan. The Emirate of Transjordan was established on April 11, 1921, and its independence from Britain was declared on May 25, 1946. It was called the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
