Ahmadi Muslims are among the most vulnerable minorities in many countries. What makes their situation in Pakistan particularly worrisome, however, is the systemic nature of their persecution and state-sponsored persecution by law. This makes the position of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community uniquely dangerous as being the only religious community in Pakistan to be targeted by the State simply on grounds of faith.

This legislation not only prohibits preaching and other forms of proselytizing but also, in practice, restricts other elements of manifesting religious belief, such as holding open discourse about religion with non-Ahmadis, even where these do not amount to proselytizing.

This persecution is not just limited to Pakistan but is moving to other countries such as Indonesia, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and other Muslim dominated countries and Bangladesh too.

State agencies and non-State actors factually join hands to create a societal atmosphere of intimidation, harassment, discrimination – and indeed persecution – which prevents Ahmadis from enjoying their basic human rights.

Ahmadis cannot live securely and without fear for themselves and their families. Harassment, discrimination, and persecution affect Ahmadis in all dimensions of their lives, from the cradle to the grave.

The recent attack claimed by ISIS in Bangladesh on Ahmadiyya Muslim community proves that they have some plans for Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina should not support ISIS driven elements like Khatm-e-Nabuwat and Hefazat-e-Islam in the country. Otherwise, I’m afraid, Bangladesh will turn into another world threat and international communities will impose sanctions; economic and strategic. Ahmadis have always raised the standards of their motherland, be it India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Israel, USA or any. If the ruling elite of Bangladesh continue supporting the kingpins like Shah Ahmad Shafi of Hefazat-e-Islam then very soon they’ll face fierce opposition internationally.

Draconian blasphemy laws are at the core of this.

They violate everyone’s freedom of religion or belief and are inconsistent with established human rights norms. This adds to the feeling of marginalization and exclusion experienced by members of minorities and points to an unwillingness of the State to protect members of this minority.

Under international human rights law, the State is obliged to respect everyone’s freedom of religion or belief and provide protection against any infringements from third parties. The State cannot impose religious views on its citizens and must offer equal protection of the law to all within its jurisdiction.

An immediate ban on Khatm-e-Nabuwat and Hefazat-e-Islam is the immediate need in Bangladesh. Our nation is being radicalized by these filthy Islamist groups. Today, ISIS is dictating them which proves their role in international terrorism. The government should investigate their funding sources.

The Alami Majlis Tahaffuze Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (AMTKN) is responsible for much anti-Ahmadi propaganda in Pakistan. In Bangladesh, they are known as Khatm-e-Nabuwat Andolan. Clergy associated with AMTKN are often instigators of violence against members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Organizations such as Khatme Nubuwwat or AMTKN are amongst the root causes of terrorism in the world

Khatm-e-Nabuwat today having a splinter and affiliated groups in various parts of the world including ISIS, Daesh, and Boko Haram is the root of terrorism worldwide. It is a tragedy that in the name of the peaceful religion of Islam which establishes freedom of religion and belief for all and the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH) who is the prince of peace and practiced the true peaceful Islam, these Islamist groups are acting contrary to the teachings of Islam and defaming the character of the blessed prophet PBUH. If organizations such as Khatme Nubuwwat are allowed to continue unabated they will affect the peace and security of the wider society in the world. We believe that this is a serious and real threat and such organizations must be stopped.

We appeal to the international community to take serious note on this issue and we affirmatively hope the government of Bangladesh will establish the rule of law and safeguard and protect all its citizens.
