In March, the number of confirmed corona infections in Qatar jumped from 3 to 244 cases from one day to the next. Virtually all of them were immigrant workers living in one of the crowded accommodations in the Doha industrial zone.
“Up to eight people are accommodated in very small rooms. Sometimes other people sleep on mattresses in between on the floor, “says Fabien Goa, an expert from the think tank Fairsquare who has been monitoring the precarious situation of migrant workers in the Gulf States for many years.
