The Government of Paraguay today issued the resolution that provides for the backward movement of the Plan of Gradual Uprising of the strict quarantine and re-imposes the mandatory isolation in the entire territory of the province of Alto Paraná, where Ciudad del Este is located, due to the increase of coronavirus cases.

The Minister of Health, Julio Mazzoleni, explained that the idea is to find a way out of the situation in Ciudad del Este, located on the triple border with Argentina and Brazil, where an almost total quarantine returned to the increase in positive cases.

“By the very weight of epidemiological indicators, we are looking for a way out to regain control of this. I have a very strong sensitivity to the situation we are facing, we are all on the same side, “Mazzoleni told the press, according to the local newspaper La Nacion.

After the protests, repression, and riots of the last hours, the minister asked the inhabitants of Alto Parana to understand that the objective is to contain the spread of the virus to guarantee their health.

“You have to see what items, what sectors, and what areas to enable businesses. If you know a country that has successfully coped with the pandemic, with all the beds and a more robust health system, it does not exist. That is why we have to take action, it is not a time for confrontation, it is a time for unity and finding a way out, “he added.

Last night, Ciudad del Este became the center of protests, repression, and riots, mainly in the primary area of the Friendship Bridge.

A group of people took to the streets to reject the return to total quarantine, established by the Government until August 16, and faced and were repressed by the National Police.

During the validity of the new quarantine, all the inhabitants of that province must remain in their habitual residence and will only be able to make minimal trips to stock up on food, medicine, and cleaning supplies.

National, departmental and municipal authorities, as well as white, cleaning, military, and police forces, are exempt from the movement restriction.

Also to people who must assist others with disabilities and to press workers, supermarkets, grocery stores, pharmacies, and the food supply logistics chain.

The maintenance of basic services such as water, electricity, and communications will continue to function and funeral services will be maintained.

The inhabitants of other departments of the national territory will not be able to enter Alto Parana with the exception of those who are included in the excepted activities.
