The foreign ministers of the EU member states failed to agree on a package of sanctions against Belarus. The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell announced this to journalists on Monday, September 21.
“For this issue, we need a unanimous decision, and now there was no unanimity in the hall,” the European Commissioner explained.
According to him, the European leaders who will gather at the summit on September 24-25 will have to solve this problem.
On September 15, Borrell announced that the European Union no longer considers Alexander Lukashenko the president of Belarus. “We consider the elections on August 9 to be rigged … We do not recognize Lukashenka as the legitimate president of Belarus,” the head of European diplomacy stressed.
