The international community must recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, as this will help stop the escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this on the air of the TV channel Euronews.

He stressed that the international community must show resolve on this issue.

“If we want to stop the humanitarian catastrophe, if we want to avoid further escalation of this conflict, the international community must show determination and recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.

Azerbaijan and Armenia are in the phase of aggravation of the territorial conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, but the representatives of the sides declared their readiness for peace talks.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called on Russia, the United States, and France to continue attempts to resolve the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Aliyev said this the next day after the message of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, which welcomed the talks of the Minsk Group by telephone. Armenia announced its readiness for peace negotiations with the mediation of the OSCE.

All of these countries are part of the so-called OSCE Minsk Group for the settlement of the conflict in the region.

The OSCE Minsk Group called on the leaders of the conflicting countries to immediately commit to restoring substantive negotiations.

Let us remind you that the fighting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh began on the night of September 27.

Azerbaijan and Armenia introduced martial law and announced the mobilization of the reserve. Both countries blame each other for the escalation of the conflict and report combat losses and casualties among the population.

Russia, France, and the USA issued a joint statement calling  for an end to hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
