A company seeking to question the results of the Pennsylvania presidential election has abruptly pulled out of a federal lawsuit it filed a few days ago on behalf of President Trump.
The firm’s exit followed an article published Monday in The New York Times that spoke of internal tensions within the firm over its work for the Trump campaign in Pennsylvania. Some employees said they were concerned that the firm was being used to undermine the integrity of the electoral process. One lawyer resigned in protest.
The Ohio-based law firm received at least $ 727,000 in royalties from the Trump campaign and the GOP National Committee, according to public election reports.
The law firm filed a lawsuit Monday in Pennsylvania District Court on behalf of the Trump campaign. The lawsuit alleged that there were “irregularities” throughout the state during the presidential election, in which President-elect Joe Biden won by more than 50,000 votes.
The Democratic National Committee filed a motion to dismiss the claim.
On Wednesday, the company issued a statement noting its “long history of work in the electoral field, during which we represented Democratic, Republican, and independent campaigns and issues.”
“Sometimes this requires us to consider contentious cases,” the statement said. “We expect criticism in such cases and reaffirm the right of all individuals to express concern and dissent.”
Before that, lawyers refused to work with the Trump campaign in Arizona.
