The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Friday that he will not attend the inauguration ceremony of his successor, Joe Biden.
“To all those who have asked me, I will not go to the swearing-in on January 20,” he wrote through his Twitter account.
The president made the announcement after acknowledging his defeat in the elections on Thursday, in the face of the threat that an impeachment process would be initiated against him, accused of instigating the assault on the Capitol by his followers.
In a video also posted on Twitter, Trump finally delivered the message about the elections that half the country had been waiting to hear for two months, and condemned the attack on Congress.
“Congress has certified the result (of the elections). A new Administration will come to power on January 20. Now I will focus on ensuring a smooth, orderly, and smooth transition of power, “he said.
“This moment calls for healing and reconciliation”, said the head of state, a day after thousands of inciting his followers to march to the Capitol to try to interfere with the process of ratification of the election results.
His message came two months after the mainstream media reported the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the November elections, and after an unprecedented campaign to sow distrust in the results, which he called fraudulent without providing evidence.
