Biden called Putin with an offer to meet

US President Joe Biden made a telephone call to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, including to suggest a summit meeting. This was announced on Tuesday, April 13, by the White House website (Readout of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia ).

The American leader offered to hold a meeting with Putin in the coming months on the territory of a third country. During the talks, the parties plan to discuss all the issues that are currently relevant for relations between the two countries.

Biden also confirmed the invitation to Putin to take part in the Climate Summit, which will be held via videoconference. In addition, both sides declared their readiness to continue the dialogue on strategic security, arms control, the situation in Afghanistan and global climate change.

The sides exchanged views and opinions on the Ukrainian crisis. Putin, for his part, outlined approaches to the settlement, which are based on the Minsk Package of Measures.

Finally, the American president noted that he still hopes to build “stable and predictable” relations with Russia, according to the Kremlin’s website .
