US President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Friday to comment on the situation in Afghanistan and the military evacuation of American citizens and endangered Afghans.

The president’s speech focused on the evacuation of U.S. citizens and their families, but also applicants for special immigrant visas.

US President Joe Biden said… since my last speech on Monday, we have made great strides. We have secured the airport and we have almost 6,000 soldiers on the ground securing the airport. The only country with so much power on the other side of the world is the United States. So far, 18,000 people have been evacuated from Kabul. These are the Americans, our Afghan allies and their families. These people were dying next to us on the battlefield and gave valuable information such as translations – Biden said, adding:

He added .. I’ll be clear, every American who wants to come home will come home. This evacuation is dangerous. It involves risk and I cannot promise that there will be no losses. As an American, I express my gratitude to brave men and women. As we work out the evacuation logistics, we maintain contact with the Taliban. We have made it clear to the Taliban – for every attack on our forces, you will receive a quick and clear response.
