The Tverskoy District Court in Moscow sentenced Aleksey Nechushkin to four years in prison, who in 2022 set fire to a car in protest against the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. About this writes “Mediazona” * with reference to the press service of the court.
Nechushkin was found guilty under the article “hooliganism” (part 2 of article 213 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, on February 27, 2022, a man drove a car into the fences of Pushkinskaya Square, after which he set the car on fire. At the same time, several slogans against hostilities were spray-painted on the car. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, the fire was extinguished, and Nechushkin was arrested, reported to the press service of the Moscow Interior Ministry.
Psychology and linguistics experts agreed the man was sane and the slogans on his car were seen as inciting political hatred towards certain people, writing SOTA view.
At the hearing, which took place on 6 February, the accused explain that by his actions he wanted to draw attention to the military conflict. He also noted that “smoke and fire are symbols of war,” SOTAvision reports. Brother Nechushkin Andrei at a meeting said that their mother is from Ukraine, where their relatives now live.
“It was kind of a unique picket using a car. I was very worried about my relatives and I didn’t want them to think that I was indifferent,” Nechushkin told the court.
At the same time, the man called the arson of the car a ‘stupid act’ and said he didn’t hate the authorities, but added he ‘couldn’t have acted differently’ .
