Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change presents the most prominent achievements of sustainable development at the Gulf Engineering Forum

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is participating, as a sponsor, in the 24th Gulf Engineering Forum, and the Environment and Sustainability Engineering Conference and Exhibition, which is organized by the Ministry of Municipality in cooperation with the Gulf Engineering Federation and the Qatar Society of Engineers, at the Sheraton Hotel, which started today and continues until March 9.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is reviewing its efforts in the field of combating pollution and reducing its effects on the local environment, through its pavilion at the exhibition accompanying the Environment and Sustainability Engineering Conference and Exhibition, as the pavilion displays the most prominent achievements of the Ministry in the field of achieving sustainable development, to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Ministry’s pavilion also highlights the latest devices used by the Ministry to monitor pollution, noise and radiation, in addition to displaying some samples of environmentally friendly building materials that have been recycled to produce raw materials used in building projects, roads and construction industries. This is in addition to introducing the public and specialists to the most prominent achievements of the Ministry in the field of engineering and environmental sustainability, and introducing the national network for monitoring non-ionizing radiation, by presenting a number of video clips of these initiatives and achievements.

In a parallel context, Sheikh Dr. Saud bin Khalifa Al Thani, Director of the Department of Green Development and Environmental Sustainability at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, participated in the presidential panel discussion on environmental governance, who emphasized that the Gulf Engineering Forum is considered one of the first scientific forums concerned with environmental affairs and work on Introducing all modern technologies in the field of environmental engineering and sustainability.

Dr. Saud bin Khalifa Al Thani pointed out during the session that one of the most important reasons for the success of the State of Qatar’s bid to host the World Cup is planning from the outset to include the field of environmental sustainability in all aspects of the tournament, so that sustainability goes beyond the boundaries of the buildings and facilities of the event and expands to the extent of sustainable planning for Qatari cities. Such as Lusail and Al Wakra, pointing out that based on this vision, public transport infrastructure projects such as the metro were implemented to be environmentally friendly, which contributed to reducing carbon emissions. He explained that the state attached great importance to the process of recycling and waste management during the World Cup, by reducing non-recyclable plastic materials, and organic waste was also disposed of at stadium sites, indicating that, accordingly, we came out with the first World Cup tournament with a low carbon footprint, which won Liked by the global sports and environmental community.


And the Director of the Department of Green Development and Environmental Sustainability stated that the planning and implementation processes for this important event have become a standard for the Ministry of Environment to host any upcoming global events. He added that the climate change file has become a global concern, and the State of Qatar has taken tangible steps in the field of expanding renewable energies, pointing out that the State of Qatar is a major exporter of natural gas, which is a commodity of increasing strategic value in recent years due to its potential. Contribute to hydrogen production or even as a fossil fuel with a relatively low carbon footprint compared to oil or coal.

The State of Qatar is also expanding in establishing alternatives that are more environmentally friendly than natural gas, including ammonia and hydrogen. The state has also expanded in renewable energy projects, the latest and largest of which is the Al-Kharsaah solar energy plant, stressing that the State of Qatar still has many ambitions, such as connecting the electric grid to all Gulf countries, to contribute Countries in the region to reduce emissions, pointing out that all of this is in the interest of the environment and combating climate change, as it enriches Qatar’s economic diversification through integrated industries of diverse and high-value products.
