NYT explains Xi Jinping’s desire to end the conflict in Ukraine

The New York Times predicts Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin. The publication notes that Xi can become a peacemaker in the conflict in Ukraine.

Western media reports that the Chinese leader may first take part in negotiations with Vladimir Putin, then go to Zelenskyy . As a result, Xi Jinping will become a mediator in negotiations between the two countries between which the conflict has erupted, according to the New York Times.

What is at stake for Beijing is its quest for legitimacy as the leader of an alternative world order to that dominated by the United States.

As the regional chief previously indicated, the UK hopes for a positive outcome for Ukraine following the meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping. In the NATO country, they are counting on the fact that the head of the PRC will ask the Russian president to withdraw the military contingent from the “territory of Ukraine”.
